BioA bit about me
I want to write Comedy for a living. There, I've said it. I've recently completed a 5 week short course on Professional Comedy Writing with the Comedy Dr himself - Tim Ferguson. I've also attended "The serious business of being funny" during the Melbourne Writers Festival and Dissecting The Frog -with Dom Romero at the MICF.
I've been a regular at the MICF for the last 2 years (viewing- not performing- though I hope to do that one day) I've met Claire Hooper, Josh Thomas, and Paul Mcdermott. My favorite shows on TV are : Good News Week and The Gruen Transfer ( and Sideshow)
The list of comedians I like looks something like this:
Paul Mcdermott, Wil Anderson, Ross Noble, Tim Minchin, Adam Hills, Claire Hooper, Wilson Dixon, Josh Thomas, Tripod, DAAS, GUD, Lano and woodly, Fiona O'laughin, Corrine Grant, Wendy Harmer, Jeff Green, The Mighty Boosh, The Goons, The Scared Weird Little Guys, Nina Contti, Greg Fleet, The Kransky Sisters, Rod Quontock, Arj Barker Axis of Awesome, Smart Casual,Jimmy James Eaton and Weird Al Yankovic. I could list more but i'd be here all day.
I've been writing since I was ten. It's something I've always wanted to do. When I was 12 I wanted to be a journalist. I kept writing poems, short stories and parodies of songs till the age of 17 when due to circumstances outside of my control, I stopped. I didn't pick up a pen and write again until late 2007 after the axing of the brilliant SideShow. It was this show ( and indirectly it's host) that inspired me to want to write again.
I believe what you find funny -takes you from who you were, makes you who you are and sets you on the path on who you will eventually be.
Finally, despite the endless amount of criticism I have copped I am going to say 1 final thing.
Paul Mcdermott is my idol. I want to be just like him when (if) I grow up .
